Family Day Care South Cairns Association Inc. is the Approved Provider for Family Day Care South Cairns Scheme and Family Day Care South Cairns Community Kindergarten.
Family Day Care South Cairns Association is a not for profit Incorporated Association.
Family Day Care South Cairns Association Inc. endeavours to provide the community of Cairns and southern areas with a high quality home based Family Day Care education and care service and Community Kindergarten. To do this, Management Committee Members, Co-ordination Unit staff, Kindergarten staff and Family Day Care Educators work in partnership to uphold organisational values and meet legislation requirements.
Family Day Care South Cairns Association Inc. took over the responsibility of running FDC South Scheme in 1996, and opened FDC South Cairns Community Kindergarten in January 2015.
Under the National Quality Framework, the Management Committee is the ‘Approved Provider’.
The overall role of the Management Committee as the Approved Provider is to manage the Scheme and Kindergarten in accordance with the organisation’s stated objectives, the National Law and Regulations, Commonwealth Legislation in relation to the Family Assistance Act, and the Scheme’s Policies and Procedures.
The Management Committee consists of Parent, Educator and Community Representatives and meets regularly for Management Committee meetings.
Co-ordination Unit staff, Kindergarten staff and Educators are responsible to the Management Committee.

Children come into Family Day Care with a myriad of experiences, knowledge and skills, whatever age they are. Every child has a unique personality, temperament and individual learning style. Every child is part of a family, a culture and a society that influences what and how they learn. Respecting each child’s unique personality, competencies and background is crucial for stakeholders of Family Day Care South Cairns Association Inc. who aim to provide the best care and education in a home based child care setting. This service aims to support Children, Families, Educators, Co-ordination Unit Staff and Management Committee to enable children’s individual needs to be recognised and respected.
Family Day Care South Cairns Association Inc. has been granted a “Provider Approval” under the Education and Care Services National Law 2010 and Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011.
This means that the Scheme must abide by the National Quality Framework. The National Quality Framework consists of the National Law, National Regulations and the National Quality Standards with a national quality rating and assessment system.
The Scheme is a recipient of Federal Government funding and is fully regulated by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. Families are able to claim the Child Care Government subsidies including Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate.
The Scheme operates within the Scheme’s Policies and Procedures Manual. This Manual supports the Education and Care Services National Law, Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011, National Quality Standards and the legislation and legislative instruments that form the Family Assistance Law.
Family Day Care South Cairns Association is also the Approved Provider/Management Committee for Family Day Care South Cairns Community Kindergarten.
Family Day Care South Cairns Community Kindergarten follows the Early Years Leaning Framework (EYLF) and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline.
Our community kindergarten is affiliated with Lady Gowrie. Lady Gowrie has been educating and caring for children since 1940. The Gowrie believes that childhood is a unique time of life, to be valued and enjoyed in its own right.
